Privacy Policy

www.erin-alladin.com (the “Site”) is owned and operated by Erin Alladin. Erin Alladin is the data controller and can be contacted at: erin@erin-alladin.com

This Privacy Policy applies in addition to the terms and conditions of the Site. It describes how your personal information is collected, used, and shared when you visit or make a purchase from the Site. By using this site, you agree that you consent to the conditions set out in this policy.

What Personal Information we collect

Personal Information

When we talk about “Personal Information”, we are talking about Device Information, User Information and Order Information.

Device Information

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. This data is considered “non-identifying information,” as it does not personally identify you on its own.

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  • “Cookies” are data files that are placed on your device or computer and often include an anonymous unique identifier. For more information about cookies, and how to disable cookies, visit https://allaboutcookies.org/
  • “Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  • “Web beacons,” “tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

User Information

Subscriptions

When you subscribe to our email list, we retain the data you provided in the email list’s signup form. Additionally, we collect data from emails that we send such as if you opened the email, if you clicked a link in the email, or if you unsubscribed. If the email contains a survey, then any of the answers you provide from that survey are collected

Comments and Reviews

When visitors leave comments or reviews on the Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. Gravatar is included under the Automattic privacy policy (see below). After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Order Information

Additionally, when you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information including credit card numbers, email address, and phone number.  We refer to this information as “Order Information.”

How we collect Personal Information

We collect information by fair and lawful means, and with your consent and knowledge. We let you know why we collect it and how it will be used. You may refuse our request for this information; however, we may be unable to provide you with some of our services without it.

How we use your Personal Information

Device Information

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimize our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns). We do not disclose the specifics of this information publicly. We may, however, share aggregated and anonymized versions of this information, for example in reports about trends in our customers’ usage of the Site.

User Information

We use the Subscriber Information that we collect to communicate with you and to learn more about what you’re looking for. If you wish to opt out of receiving promotional communications, you can follow the “unsubscribe” instructions that are included in any promotional correspondence from us.

Order Information

We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfil any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information and providing you with receipts and/or order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you;
  • Screen our orders for potential risk or fraud; and
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or advertising relating to our products or services.

Sharing your Personal Information

We share your Personal Information with the following third parties to help us use it for the purposes of performing specific tasks on our behalf. We do not give them permission to disclose or use any of our data for other purposes.

Automattic

Automattic is the company behind WordPress, and they have many plugins that integrate into the platform. Most of their plugins focus around building web pages, but others do collect data from end-users, for example for creating website analytics. You can view their privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/

Google Analytics

We may also use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site. You can read more about how Google uses your Personal Information here: https://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/

You can also opt-out of Google Analytics here: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Legal Responsibilities

Finally, we may also share your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant or other lawful requests for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

The Personal Information we collect is stored and processed in Ontario, or where our third-party providers maintain facilities.

We do not otherwise supply your Personal Information to third parties. We do not sell or rent your Personal Information to marketers.

Do Not Track

Please note that we do not alter our Site’s data collection and use practices when we see a Do Not Track signal from your browser.

Data Retention

When you place an order through the Site, we will maintain your Order Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.

When you unsubscribe from our mailing list, we will maintain your Subscriber Information for our records unless and until you ask us to delete this information.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

If you register on our website, we also store the Personal Information you provide in your user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their Personal Information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

GDPR

For users in the European Union, we adhere to the Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016, known as the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”). For users in the United Kingdom, we adhere to the GDPR as enshrined in the Data Protection Act 2018.

We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer because we do not fall within the categories of controllers and processors required to appoint a Data Protection Officer under Article 37 of the GDPR.

Legal Basis for Processing

We collect and process personal data about users in the EU only when we have a legal basis for doing so under Article 6 of the GDPR.

We rely on the following legal basis to collect and process the personal data of users in the EU:

  1. Processing of user Personal Information is necessary for us or a third party to pursue a legitimate interest. Our legitimate interest is not overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of users.

In plain language, we are processing your Personal Information in order to fulfil contracts we might have with you (for example, if you make an order through the Site), or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests listed above.

Please note that your information will be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

Your Rights as a User

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  1. Right to be informed;
  2. Right of access;
  3. Right to rectification;
  4. Right to erasure;
  5. Right to restrict processing;
  6. Right to complain to a supervisory authority;
  7. Right to data portability; and
  8. Right to object.

If you would like to know if we have collected your Personal Information, or if you would like to request that your Personal Information be deleted, corrected, or updated, or to exercise any of your other rights under the GDPR, please contact us at: erin@erin-alladin.com.

Cookies

We use “cookies” to collect information about you and your activity on our Site. A cookie is a small file, stored on a user’s hard drive by a website. Its purpose is to collect data relating to the user’s browsing habits. You can choose to disable cookies entirely in your internet browser, but this may decrease the quality of your user experience.

Please refer to our Cookie Policy below for more information.

Children

We do not knowingly collect or use Personal Information from children under 16 years of age. If we learn that we have collected Personal Information from a child under 16 years of age, the Personal Information will be deleted as soon as possible. If a child under 16 years of age has provided us with Personal Information, their parent or guardian may contact us at erin@erin-alladin.com.

Limits of our policy

While we take all reasonable precautions to ensure that user data is secure and that users are protected, there always remains the risk of harm. The Internet as a whole can be insecure at times, and therefore we are unable to guarantee the security of Personal Information beyond what is reasonably practical.

If you follow hyperlinks from our Site to another Site, please note that we are not responsible for and have no control over their privacy policies and practices.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.

Cookie Policy

We use “cookies” to collect information about you and your activity on our Site. This cookie policy explains how cookies are used between your computer and our Site, and is a part of our privacy policy.

A cookie is a small file, stored on a user’s hard drive by a website. Its purpose is to collect data relating to the user’s browsing habits. Most browsers are set up to automatically accept cookies, but you can change this by updating your browser’s privacy settings. You will need to make these updates on every device you use. Be aware that, while blocking some kinds of cookie won’t make a big difference to your browsing experience, blocking all cookies might prevent you from accessing certain website features or content.

Types of cookies used on websites:

Essential cookies, which enable core functions like user logins, account management, shopping carts, and payment processing.

Performance cookies, which track how you use a website during your visit (without collecting personal information about you). These cookies help us understand how our audience is using our Site, so that we can make decisions that improve our users’ overall experience. Performance cookies tend to be anonymized and aggregated for this use. They may be by the website you are visiting or by third-party services.

Functionality cookies, which collect information about your device and any settings you may choose on the Site, such as language and timezone. These may be set by the website you are visiting or by third-party services. They help websites provide users with customized, optimized experiences.

Targeting/advertising cookies, which are used to determine which kinds of promotional content is relevant to you. Websites can use them to improve the effectiveness of marketing content that is presented to you. These cookies may be set by the website you are visiting or by third-party services.

Third-party cookies, which let third parties (like content partners and analytics providers) perform specific tasks on our behalf. We may provide them with access to specific information, or they may set third-party cookies. Third-party cookies can be used to track you on other sites that use the same third-party service. We have no control over third-party cookies, and they are not covered by our Site’s cookie policy.

Cookies on our Site:

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
